Returning Swimmer Online Registration Feb 1 - New Swimmer Registration Feb 15
Our mission is to provide opportunities in competitive swimming for children and youth in the City of Bethlehem and surrounding areas and to advance interest and access to swimming and aquatic-related programs and activities
Bethlehem Aquatic Club (BAC) was established in 1974 by the incredible athletes, Bill and Sherry Ruth, both Physical Education teachers in the Bethlehem Area School District (BASD). Sherry taught at Broughal and Liberty High Schools while Bill coached at Freedom and Liberty High Schools.
Bill and Sherry managed the Aquatic Club in Bethlehem until 1992. They were successful in training young swimmers to perform at the highest level, with many of them achieving national rankings in the Top 10. One of their swimmers even held a National Record.
The pair had a great bond with both Bethlehem Area School District and the City Parks Department, whose collaborations played a pivotal role in the success of the swim club. They retired in 2007 and relocated to Estes Park, Colorado. However, their long-cherished desire was to see BAC thrive and we are making their dream come true by reviving the Aquatic Club with a new summer swim team called The Bethlehem Tides.
The new Bethlehem Tides Swim Team is led by an incredible Board and Advisory Board, which includes two of Bill and Sherry’s former swimmers from the 1990s: Jaime Bloss and Sara Collins (formerly Dyson). Additionally, the partnership with the City of Bethlehem Parks and Recreation Department has been revived, resulting in the first-ever Summer City Swim Team.
The legacy of the Ruth family is expanding into something they always dreamed of and strived for - giving all kids access to the joy of competitive swimming! We invite you to join the Bethlehem Tides Swim team and be a part of the Bethlehem Aquatic Club family. Don't miss this milestone opportunity this summer and help pave the way for 50 more years of swimming development in the City of Bethlehem.
Coach Sara is our newly re-launched BAC President and former Bethlehem Aquatic Club swimmer. She grew up swimming at the Bethlehem YMCA and is a current record holder. She is a State ranked Liberty High swimmer who went on to compete at the University of Delaware ’96-’00 and won America East championships and was also UD Female Athlete of the Year ’98. She has coached teams in VA, DE, at NWSC & YMCA Stars over the past 25 years. She works in non-profits with youth and is very active in the community and schools. Sara is married to Todd Collins for nearly 22 years, and they have 4 sons who play multiple sports but swimming is their favorite! She likes to run, spin and lift but traveling with her family brings her the biggest smiles!
Jaime grew up swimming for the Bethlehem YMCA Stars, Northwest Swim Club, Liberty High School, and Bethlehem Aquatic Club with Bill and Sherry Ruth. She swam for Wheaton College and was a 2 time All-American. She returned home and has coached for Southern Lehigh and the Bethlehem Stars. She enjoys open-water swimming, cycling, paddle boarding, and teaching art to her students at Spring Garden Elementary School. She is also serving as the Treasurer on the Bethlehem Aquatic Club board. Her daughter is a sophomore at Liberty High School and a varsity letter-holding swimmer who loves the 100 fly!
Alexa Kutch is a former student athlete and current high school teacher and swim coach at Freedom High School. She also coaches club swimming at Blue Eagle Swim Team in Nazareth, PA. Alexa swam competitively for 15 years, where in that time, she was able to collect several accolades: multiple district and PA state medalist, PIAA District XI meet record holder in the 100 backstroke as well as Easton Area High School’s 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly team and pool records. She attended college at Drexel University where she continued to make a name for herself on the pool deck. Alexa was able to compete in some of swimmings most elite meets including US Nationals, NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, and U.S. Olympic Team Trials. In her senior year, she made history by becoming the first Colonial Athletic Conference woman to sweep the backstroke events all four years of eligibility. She still holds the Drexel and CAA records in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Along the way, she collected 18 CAA medals (14 of those being gold). Now having switched roles from swimmer to coach, Alexa looks to instill this level of success in the next generation of swimmers.

Once in high school he was a 4 time PIAA District XI Championship qualifier and a 2 time high point award winner for Freedom High School. AJ also swam for the club team Two Rivers Aquatics where he made history, becoming the first swimmer to qualify for Middle Atlantic Senior Championships representing Two Rivers since being established as a USA Swim team in 2018. This past season in AJ’s freshman year he finished top 3 in points for the River Hawks and placed 4th in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay at the Landmark Conference Championships. In his first year of coaching, AJ is looking to advance the capabilities of those that will be following in his footsteps.
Alivia is an incoming freshman at Lafayette College, where she plans to continue her swimming career and study Biology. She swam at Freedom High School, and was most competitive in the 100 breastroke. Alivia is really excited to coach for Tides this summer and help so many young swimmers learn, grow, and accomplish their goals!

Alex has been an avid swimmer since childhood, competing for the Souderton Dolphins in the summers, the Upper Bucks YMCA in the winters, and the Pennridge High School team, where he specialized in the 200 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, and the 500 freestyle. Alex continued his swimming career at Dickinson College, where he was proud to contribute to the team’s undefeated season during his senior year, which earned the Red Devils the Centennial Conference title. Now a teacher at Palisades High School, Alex enjoys running, biking, snowboarding, and other outdoor activities.
